After
a few well-spent nights in Athens, "The Brindisi Bunch" parted
ways and
Faith and I jumped on a ferry and headed out to the islands. Our first
stop
was a quiet little island called Naxos. Here's a shot at the town from
our
mad-cheap lodgings at the top of the hill in Naxos Town.
Here
we are nabbing some Greek food.
We're
drinking a wine called Retsina. It's grapes are grown in pine areas,
giving it a very srtong "woody" taste. Definitely an aquired
thing. Us amateurs
drank it with some Sprite.
We
had purposely avoided the "party islands" like Corfu and Mykanos.
We sort of
wanted to chill out for a bit, and Naxos was the perfect place to do it.
There's a whole
lot of nothing going on there. This mountainous shot is pretty typical
of the island.
And the easiest way to explore it turned out to be...
...
via moped! Rock on!
Navigation
was a bit difficult. We actually followed this one road that
unexpectedly ended at a staircase in the middle of a small village. This
donkey (and several small children) came out to laugh at us.
A shot back at Naxos Town.
An
example of the beautiful Greek-style churches.
We found a cool deserted beach on the south side of the island. In the
distance
there is one of the nearby islands.
Not
a bad place to hang out.
Or
do some climbing.
The
view from the top of these rocks was amazing.
