Check out the view down the Champs d'Elysee from up here.
See what I mean about that rotary, though? Looks like one of those crappy,
tiny little Euro cars is holding everyone up.
This
is an odd shot of Carl and an old French guy sitting on a bench opposite
a mirrored wall waiting for our respective women to come out of the ladies room
inside the Arc d'Triomphe. And the night just kept getting odder...
Walking back toward home, we decided to stop by a pub off the
Champs d'Elysee
and get a beer. Within, we met these two - a newlywed American couple on their
honeymoon. They just so happened to be very well-off financially and very excited
to run into other Americans.
The details are a bit blurry, but the rest of the night
included countless drinks (very few of of which we paid for),
a visit to their swank
hotel, a meal at an African restaurant, a trip to a seedy underground strip joint filled
with haughy French strippers, an invitation to accompany them to Amsterdam, a
failed attempt at getting us first-class plane tickets back to the States, and a cab ride
back to our hotel at 4:30 in the morning.
Not a bad way to spend your second-to-last
night in Europe.
We sort of took a pass on meeting them in Amsterdam. They were amazingly kind
to offer, but we had been travelling for almost 3 months now and were somewhat
eager to stop roaming for a little while. So we spenf our last carefree day of the trip
seeing
the sights of Paris. Over the Seine there is Notre Dame cathedral.
But first we wanted to visit another cathedral - San Chapelle.
We had been tipped off about it by two of our Aussie friends back in Greece.
And it turned out to be a very good tip. Looks like Hogwarts, doesn't it?.
Obviously, San Chapelle is reknowned for it's stained glass windows.
That's a bit of an understatement.
It was just abso-freakin-lutely gorgeous and we were so glad we saw it.
Not quite to impressive on the outside, is it? I mean, it's not bad... but you really
couldn't even begin to guess at the splendor inside.
Next up was the cathedral right around the corner. Notre Dame.
We spent a bit of time just looking at the amazing detail on the exterior.
Mmmm... detail.
Not bad.
