Alright.
So after spending about 4 days in Salzburg, we decided we needed to move
on.
We had already stayed in Austria a bit longer than expected, but hey...
they country is
way cool. Our best bet on getting out was to head back east to Vienna,
butinstead of
just hopping on a train back, we decided it would be much cooler to catch
a boat up
the Danube and visit some of the small, wine producing villages along
the way. And our
first overnight stop on this 3 day journey was a liitle town called Melk.
Look at this place.
Melk is most famous for it's heavily forified monastary, seen here at
night.
Turns out the hostel was closed, so it took us
a little bit of time (and alot more
walking) to find a place to stay. But after finding a very nice (and cheap)
place,
we climbed up the cliffside the next morning and checked out this monastary.
Turns
out that the place has had somewhat of a facelift. Hmm... this doesn't
look like a gothic facade...
And the inside had been turned into both a functional
museum and a
functional school. This crazy shit here was in the museum. I hope.
Carl found this shot infinitely amusing.
A
look from atop the monastary out toward Melk and the old "blue"
Danube.
Here's
the front of the main building.
Upon
entering, you're greeted with this old, old library.
And
then... it's into the cathedral. Look at this place.
